Lyn Slater
Lyn Slater, LMSW, Ph.D., is a Clinical Assistant Professor
at the Graduate School of Social Services and an adjunct professor at Fordham
University School of Law. She teaches and developed two courses on child abuse
and neglect; one with a focus on evidence-based assessment and intervention and
the other with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration. She has also taught
Social Justice: Practice with Organizations and Communities and Practice with
Individuals, Families and Groups. Professor Slater coordinates the Social Work
and the Law specialization in the Graduate School of Social Services. Dr.
Slater received an M.A. in Criminal Justice from SUNY Albany, an M.S.W. from
Before coming to Fordham, Dr. Slater was the Director of the
Child Sexual Abuse Project at Lawyers for Children, one of the first legal
organizations to use an interdisciplinary approach in the representation of
children. In that role she was qualified by New York City Family Courts as an
expert in child abuse with a specialty in child sexual abuse, worked with a
number of organizations in the development of the first Child Advocacy Centers
in New York City, developed an intervention and resource handbook for Family
Court Judges for cases involving sexual abuse, researched, wrote and
implemented a psycho-education intervention for children, parents, foster
parents and foster care workers that addressed sexual abuse and was active in
local and national interdisciplinary training efforts. She was a past President
