Merril Sobie
Merril Sobie is Professor
of Law at Pace University School of Law. Prior to coming to Pace in 1978,
he worked first as a law assistant and then Assistant to the Director of
Administration of the Courts in the First Department, followed by service as an
Executive Officer of Family Court in New York City from 1971 to 1975 and
Project Director of the Division of Criminal Justice Services from 1976 to
1978.
Professor Sobie was graduated from

treatise on “Family Court Practice” and also “The Creation of
Juvenile Justice: A History of New York’s Children’s
Laws.” He writes the
Professor Sobie is chair of the Committee on Children and the Law of
the New York State Bar Association, and in 2000 was
awarded the Association’s Howard A. Levine
Award for Excellence in Juvenile Justice and Child Welfare.
