Hon. Edward O. Spain
Justice Edward O. Spain is an
Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, Third Department, appointed on December
30, 1994. He was graduated from LaSalle
Institute in Troy, Boston
College and Albany Law School. He served in the U.S. Navy, JAGC. He began his legal career in private practice
in Troy with his father in 1966, and then served
as Deputy Clerk of Rensselaer County Surrogate's Court, Assistant Rensselaer
County District Attorney and Deputy Corporation Counsel of the City of Troy. Justice Spain
was elected to City of Troy Police
Court in 1977, Rensselaer County Family Court in 1985,
and Supreme Court in 1991 (and reelected in 2005). He has also served as Administrative
Judge for the Third Judicial District.
Justice Spain is a past chair of the New
York State Bar Association’s Committee on Children and the Law and a recipient
of the Committee’s Howard A. Levine Award for Excellence in Juvenile Justice
and Child Welfare.
