George E. Reed, Jr.

George Reed is in private practice in White Plains, concentrating on family law and appeals for the past 25 years. He appears regularly in Family Court in Westchester County and handles appeals from throughout the New York metropolitan area. He has taken more than 120 appeals to conclusion. His principles for litigation are simple: represent your client zealously within the bounds of the law, prepare every case as if you have no other cases in your office, and try every case as if you will never have to appear in front of the same judge again. He has never written an Anders brief.

Before moving to White Plains, George was an attorney in litigation and general practice in firms in New York City.

George was graduated from Swarthmore College in 1971 with a B.A. in sociology/anthropology and an (unofficial) minor in psychology. After a year in graduate school in geography at the University of Michigan, he taught school for two years and then attended Syracuse University College of Law for a year, finishing with a J.D. and M.B.A. at Indiana University (Bloomington) in 1978.

George has served on several family-related committees of the New York City Bar Association, and is presently co-chair of the New York State Bar Association Committee on Children and the Law. This is the eight annual meeting program he has organized for the Committee.

He has intermediate knowledge of French, Spanish and Swedish and has also studied German and Japanese. His Spanish has caused many a client to speak English.

Last year George was honored to receive the Howard A. Levine Award for Excellence in Juvenile Justice and Child Welfare.

His wife Joanne and one of their children are social workers; their other children are a Ph.D. candidate in psychology and a medical student.
